 Akin to a newborn in size and weighing in at just a little larger than its baby sibling Bull Rush, the Fern Trug is a consciously crafted meditation on our relationship to scale and form. Limited to ten numbered editions, a selection of trugs in this series feature a copper element, which is vinegar-aged to produce a blue patinaed constellation of watermarks. Each trug is handcrafted from a harmonized combination of wood varieties and is also available in pure Ash. The Fern Trug is well suited to the collecting and storing of smaller and more delicate produce such as rosehips, redcurrants, or soft herbs. Limited edition trugs in this series will be released in small, numbered batches throughout the calendar year.

Handcrafted using traditional steam bending methods and inspired by boat building techniques local to Crisp’s workshop and home in rural east England, the trug features an overlapping construction akin to the clinker hulls of Fenland boats. Its strong yet light structure incorporates copper nail and rove fixings as a further nod to boat building traditions, and whether nesting one inside another like matryoshka dolls or displayed as a solitary sculptural piece, the trug will sway and rock, boat-like, as it catches the wind. Fashioned from carefully sourced wood varieties that change with each new season, the trug is finished in a natural wax oil.
